Waves or rebuilding have repeatedly changed the face of Croydon over the last century. From airport to the postwar office boom, and the strange half-finished works of today, take a tour of the ever-changing skyline of Croydon and what it tells us of the hopes and dreams of the town.
John Grindrod is a social historian of modern places. His three books tell the story of living through the rebuilding of Britain since WWII: Concretopia, on the post-war boom, Outskirts, on the green belt, and Iconicon, on what has been built since 1980. He has given talks all over the country, presented on Radio 4, and guested on many podcasts. He hails from New Addington and now lives in Milton Keynes.
